English as a New Language (ENL)

The English as a New Language (ENL) Program at PS 112 is multifaceted. The students in our program all speak at least two languages, and often more! The program is designed to prepare our multilingual students to be active, confident members of their learning community. Our English Language Learners' (ELLs) learning is accelerated by acquiring new content knowledge along with academic vocabulary in their new language of English simultaneously. The ELLs at PS 112 demonstrate the progression of their English acquisition through success in all four language modalities; listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In the ENL program, ELLs are rigorously challenged in all four of these areas within each lesson.
Ludwig Wittgenstein said, "The limits of my language are the limits of my world." It is our goal in the PS 112 ENL program to guide our students to expect a limitless horizon for all their educational ambitions, and that the power to achieve this lies within themselves.
